Amanda Brugel

(February 27th, 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a sleepy community on the part of Montreal called the West Island. This part of the island known as West Island can be confusing to those unfamiliar of its purpose. Many people believe that it is an island west of Montreal However, it is actually a part of the city. West Island encompasses everything between the two cities of Lachine and West. Amanda Brugel's birthplace is frequently referenced, however her brief stay wasn't. Brugel was raised on Courtice close to Oshawa within Ontario. She was determined to be a professional dancer, but because of a huge expansion, she surpassed all of her dancing partners. In an article in The Toronto Star she admitted In heels I'm 6 feet 1 inch. After I became too big for my male companions, I quit. Dancers who have been in the past often switch to acting and in the case of Brugel it was the result of a recommendation from her drama teacher. One of her teachers suggested she audition for an annual school production. She auditioned and ended up playing the leading role in Anne of Green Gables. She was awarded an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to take part in York University's Theater Program, where she graduated at the age of 20 with a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts. In the last 20 years, the roles played by Brugel on television and the big screen have been numerous. The character of Rita from the award-winning series The Handmaid's Tale was her most famous. Brugel was the character Rita in the Handmaid's Tale the series filming over 10 years ago.
