Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shankar is an American-born British sitarist as well as a music producer. She was the first person in her age group to receive an award from the British House of Commons Staff. Anoushka Shankar is a rising star on the Indian sitar. She is both the daughter and student of Ravi Shankar. She was a child who bounded around from London in the UK to New Delhi. At the age of 13 when her first performance at New Delhi took place. Then the same year, in Encinitas CA she attended high school, graduating with distinction in 1999. Her career on stage is extensive for she has performed in most of the major stages in the world. Anoushka's career goes beyond music. She released Bapi The love of my life in 2002. The book is a biography that pays tribute to her father Ravi Shankar. Also, she appeared in movie in 2003. Her role was a Bharat Nayam dancer on Dance Like a Man. Anoushka continues to grow on her path and will surely be other things to be expected from this talented lady. Anoushka was raised in England, but spent most of her childhood split between London as well as Delhi. After that, she relocated to California and enrolled in high school there. In Delhi during his birthday celebrations for his 75th birthday, Anoushka made her debut as a sitar player in front of the audience four years following her nine-year-old father. Anoushka gained many valuable experiences when she accompanied her father on his world tour. The tour included appearances at Carnegie Hall and at Peter Gabriel's WOMAD concerts and performing with George Harrison. She was the first woman to win the House of Commons Shield, presented by British Parliament as recognition of her musicianship and artistry within performing in the Asian Arts.
